Clash of incoming and returning waves
Colliding incoming and outgoing waves

April Fools Day 2022 saw the build up of a large swell over several days following some deep low pressure systems that also produced heavy rainfall all along the east coast of NSW. A high tide added to the drama.

All images shown here were hand-held and taken with a Nikon D500 with a 28-300mm Full Frame lens.

Breaking wave at Bombo
Breaking wave at Bombo

Mid July 2020 saw a significant low pressure system off the coast of NSW with swells of 4-6 metres.

A quick trip to Bombo enabled a few images of the powerful waves to be captured between rain squalls. Most of the images are taken at the southern end where the swell was breaking and being reflected back onto itself - sometimes producing a pronounced standing wave.

Near the rocks the sea was covered with an unbroken area of foam.
